Becoming Mature | Cal Fong

This powerful message from Ephesians 4:11-13 reminds us that spiritual maturity isn't a solo journey—it's a communal process that requires the entire body of Christ. We discover that Christ has equipped His church with five essential gifts: apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers. These aren't just titles for paid staff; they're gifts distributed throughout the body to equip every believer for ministry. The beauty here is that we need each other to grow. We can't mature in isolation, attending services once a week and calling it done. True growth happens when we're vulnerable with one another, exercising our gifts in authentic community, and moving together toward three crucial markers of maturity: unity in our core beliefs, deeper intimacy with Jesus, and wholehearted commitment to God's redemptive mission in the world. The challenge confronting us is whether we're willing to make a radical realignment of our lives—not just adding mission to our to-do list, but recognizing that participating in God's work of reconciling the world to Himself is the very reason we exist as the church. It's not that the church has a mission; it's that God's mission has a church, and we're called to grow into the fullness of Christ together.
